Reflections on interview from Davos with Anthony Scaramucci on the US Outlook

I just watched the recent interview from Davos with Anthony Scaramucci on the US Outlook, the new Assistant to President Donald Trump and Director of the White House Office of Public Liaison and Intergovernmental Affairs.

The basic question here is, can a wealthy business man come up with a political policy that really benefits a wide swath of the working middle class?

I would say that the answer would be yes. Then I begin to try and think historically to find some examples where this has worked. It is a bit depressing to realize how often the wealthy while climbing the social ladder to increased wealth seem to trod on the poor as they scramble up the ladder. However, at end they sometimes do realize that their wealth can be utilized for the common good and we have the development of foundations (Ford Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, Gates Foundation, etc.)

However, and this is the crucial fact; for those wealthy ones that do seem to genuinely care for the less privileged poor, it often flows out of their character. The seem to be moderate, sensible, caring people. Bill Gates, Warren Buffet come to mind.

This is where I would have a difficulty seeing this outcome with Trump. The trump card is in fact his character. The man lies and exaggerates constantly. He frequently has not delivered on his promises in the past, and what is worse doesn't even care about it. There are many examples of this. His crafty bankruptcies and failed schemes have hurt many working class people.

I wish he would show more sensitivity to some annoying facts. His desire to back to coal exploitation flies in the face of economic reality on this issue. His total disregard of climate issues and renewable energies will cause the US to miss out on many job producing green energy initiatives.

Asking him to be more sensitive to opposing views flies in the face of his deep seated character that has him always hitting back at any one who criticizes him. Not a great indicator for possible needed changes in the future.

I find Anthony Scaramucci's rosy view of Trump mindboggling. Only the future will tell who has the correct view on Trump ; Scaramucci or the critics. Time will surely tell. Can a 70-year-old man in a position of such power really be amenable to change?
