Media: Checking the critics

One must beware of one’s tendency to overestimate the accuracy of critics. They themselves do not always get it right and also need to be corrected.

In this regard it was fascinating to observe the documentary of the Young Turks during election night in the USA. As the night wore on, it was amazing to the see them freak out (as we all did, let it be admitted) as the news of Trump’s victory became apparent. They did not seem to realize that their biting criticism of Hillary helped to bring this about. They denied the law of the lesser of two evils and now they were presented with the worst of two evils. They were left to stew in their own juices.

This reminds me of the man sitting alone in his car in a perpetual traffic jam, complaining about all the cars on the road, as the community train/bus goes sailing by.

p.s. Desperately looking for a silver lining here – since Trump has blown the cover off of the system and exposed it for what it is, we may soon get a mass uprising to change it – but let us not be fooled, it will not be pretty. Get ready for some suffering.
